Living in Louisville, Kentucky, equestrian art is practically a requirement, but for a long time, it just wasn't me. That changed at 3:00 AM one morning when I woke up with a vision: horses infused with pattern, modern color, and sharp, graphic edges. Betsey is a result of that creative fever dream - one of only 15 original pieces in the exclusive Preppy Pony Collection.
The Story Behind the Brush
"I wanted this style for my own family room refresh, and once I started, I couldn't stop. I feverishly painted 15 of them, imagining new patterns as fast as I could move the brush. Because these horses are so high-fashion, I named each one after an iconic designer. Betsey, of course, represents the over-the-top, embellished, and unapologetically fun spirit of the 1960s youthquake movement."
The Details
Betsey is a graphic standout, featuring a deep espresso coat accented with chic horizontal pinstripes. She wears the most intricate "outfit" in the collection: a sage-green saddle pad overflowing with whimsical pink florals, sunburst patterns, and dot details, all finished with a lush, bubblegum-pink fringe. She trots confidently against a large-scale, multi-colored plaid background of seafoam, lemon, and soft coral.
